LAUSD Breaks Ground on First CHPS School

LOS ANGELES-The Los Angeles Unified School District recently broke ground on the first of a series of new schools that will meet the CHPS Design Guidelines. The Cahuenga New Elementary School #1, located in Los Angeles’ Koreatown, will accommodate 804 K-5 students on a traditional calendar and an additional 1,125 on a year-round calendar.

The elementary school is the first new facility to be built since LAUSD passed a resolution in 2002 adopting the CHPS Design Guidelines for its schools. The school will feature integrated daylight and electric lighting systems in the classrooms, recycled content wall and ceiling panels and overall energy use that exceeds California Title 24 energy standards by 30 percent.
