Report Highlights School Safety Gains, Losses

The Indicators of School Crime and Safety for 2013 was released in June, highlighting a number of safety and security issues at the nation’s schools. The report is the result of a long-standing collaboration between researchers from the American Institutes for Research, National Center for Education Statistics and Bureau of Justice Statistics, and is intended to serve as a reference for developing effective programs and policies aimed at violence and school crime prevention.

L.A. City College Recognized for Design Excellence

The new Los Angeles City College (LACC) Student Union has received a 2014 Design Award at the 44th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards. Presented by the Los Angeles Business Council, the awards celebrate the region’s new and innovative architectural achievements.

Montgomery College Expands in Life Sciences Field

When Montgomery College students come back to the Germantown campus this fall, a new 140,000-square-foot Bioscience Education Center will be waiting for them. as part of a plan to advance the Montgomery County area in the technology and life science industries. The $87.9 million project was supported by the state of Maryland and Montgomery County as part of their goals to advance the area in the technology and life sciences industries.

DePaul Building Wins Construction Award

The Chicago Building Congress (CBC) and Construction Owners Association of America (COAA) International recently recognized the DePaul University Theatre School in Chicago, Ill. 2014 with a CBC/COAA Owners’ Choice Award.

MDC’s Academic Support Center Touts Student-Driven Design

The new Academic Support Center at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus received LEED Gold certification last fall after opening for use in January 2013. The facility not only touts two outdoor learning spaces and an inherently green central atrium space, it also serves as a learning tool for students to understand the impact they make on the environment.
