Sam Duncan

Dr. Sam Duncan was recently named superintendent for New Madrid County R-1 Schools in New Madrid, Mo. Duncan will officially begin his duties July 1, and is replacing Dr. Cynthia Sharp Amick who is retiring at the end of June. Duncan earned a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Missouri — Columbia as well as specialist and master’s degrees in educational administration from Southeast Missouri State University. He began his education career in 1988 as a teacher at New Madrid Central High School, where he later served as vice principal and principal. Duncan joined the Jackson R-2 District in 1996, serving as an administrator. In 2008 he joined Southeast Missouri State University as an education professor and also worked in development.
