University of Wyoming Continues Construction Projects in 2016

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Several construction projects are underway at the University of Wyoming (UW), many of which are well on their way to completion. School Construction News compiled a round up of the university’s various projects.

• The Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility: Scheduled to open early this year in time for spring semester classes, the 100,000-square-foot Enzi STEM facility will replace existing facilities on campus that have become outdated. The $38 million building will contain approximately 32 undergraduate laboratories in the STEM fields, including teaching labs for introductory courses such as general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, elementary physics, mathematics, computational sciences, computer science and other large-enrollment lab courses. Eight preparatory rooms and eight offices also will be included.

• Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts: Substantial completion on the project has been issued, and punch-list work is 90 percent complete, according to UW News. Additional landscape plantings and boulder placement are 80 percent complete and will resume in late April. Cheyenne, Wyo.-based Sampson Construction is serving as the general contractor on the project.

• Hoyt Hall Renovation: The required structural repairs to the lower level of Hoyt Hall have been completed, with substantial completion of the renovation aimed for July 2016. Laramie, Wyo.-based Elk Ridge Builders & Design LLC, the general contractor for the renovation project, has mobilized on site, and work on the interior has begun.

• High Bay Research Facility: Construction on storm drain No. 1 that will extend from the site south to a detention pond at 19th and Willett will begin construction in the next couple of weeks, and will continue through April. Several other projects such as light-gauge framing for the exterior walls, insulation for the roofing on the building’s west wing and the installation of plastic sheeting are also ongoing in January. Laramie, Wyo.-based Haselden Wyoming Constructors is serving as the general contractor on the project, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2017.

• Half Acre Gymnasium Addition and Renovation: The Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center is now open; however, the completion of punch-list tasks and building technology subsystem continues. Cody, Wyo.-based Groathouse Construction Inc. is serving as the general contractor on the project.
