Arizona School District Named for Operational Excellence

SURPRIZE, Ariz. — SchoolDude, a company that delivers cloud-based applications to help schools better manage their facilities, IT and business operations, named Dysart Unified School District in Surprise a national Campus Champion for operational excellence in early July. The company serves more than 6,000 educational institutions and more than 1 million educational professionals, and as such, recognizes top performers in the field annually.
Bob Young, director of facilities for the Dysart Unified School District, is a Campus Champion for excellence in maintenance and operations. “SchoolDude tracks our maintenance work orders and preventative maintenance work,” he said in a statement. “This service helps target repeat breakdowns, letting us investigate to continue to repair or replace that piece of equipment.”
SchoolDude analyzed more than 75 terabytes of data from the more than 6,000 participating educational institutions to measure performance and identify those facilities that exceeded their peers. The Campus Champions are those institutions that saved significant money and time by eliminating unnecessary costs and increasing productivity.
Those institutions that earn the title achieve efficiency gains of at least 20 percent, compared to previous performance. All of the Campus Champions performed effective maintenance by saving money and reducing emergencies, reducing lifecycle costs, improving customer service, increasing energy efficiency of buildings and equipment, and improving safety and reducing risk.
By using a cloud-based application to enhance the maintenance process, schools save time and increase the productivity of technicians, custodial staff and end-users. It can save maintenance staff 30 minutes to an hour per work order. If a school district completes one maintenance work order per student every year and that school district has 5,000 students, the facilities team can save at least 2,500 man hours, which means a significant savings in costs and efficiencies. It also allows maintenance staff to work on more preventative efforts, helping prolong the life of a building.
