GODFREY, Ill. — Contegra Construction Company completed a $10.5 million renovation and expansion of the Hatheway Hall theater building on Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill.

The modernization added 6,800 square feet and renovated 62,500 square feet. Contegra supervised the installation of an 8,600-square-foot solar rooftop array, which powers the building’s hot water system and provides supplementary electrical power.

Architecturally, the highlight of the project is a new two-story, 2,000-square-foot glass-enclosed lobby topped by a suspended “wave” ceiling. The lobby leads to a renovated 1,000-seat theater auditorium, which also features an acoustics-enhancing wave ceiling. A new commercial kitchen borders the lobby.

AAIC Inc. was the project architect, Sheppard, Morgan & Schwab the civil engineer, EDM Inc. the structural engineer and Bric Partnership the electrical and mechanical engineer.

The two-year community college, established in 1970, educates more than 25,000 credit and non-credit students annually. An estimated 145,000 people visit the campus each year.
